Spoon Carving Workshop – Forhands Studio
June 30 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm£35.00
Always wanted to learn how to carve or whittle but never found the time? Join Lotte from Forhands Studio for this fantastic introduction to woodcarving. No prior experience necessary, just an interest and eagerness to learn!
In this workshop you will learn:
How to make a spoon from a prepared timber blank, including: Design and marking out, safe carving etiquette, how to hold and use a whittling knife and crook knife, a range of different knife strokes, finishing techniques, features and properties of timber and, time dependent, the basics of Pyrography.
Working from a blank of sustainably sourced green timber, you will design and mark out your spoon, carve the shape, finish it with sandpaper and custom made food grade oil, then have the chance to add pattern and detail using the art of Pyrography. You will finish the workshop with good grasp of carving skills and the use of both whittling and crook knives, and most importantly, your own hand-carved spoon!
The workshop will be run from 10.30 – 3pm in the Rural Skills with a break for snacks, teas and coffees, available from the Tearoom at Murton.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those with a little experience. All tools and materials provided. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencils in case you want to jot down ideas and your designs!
